Question  Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection explains the process by which species have evolved. Charles Darwin’s theory states that “species can change over time, that new species come from pre-existing species, and that all species share a common ancestor (Concept A) through (Proposition) natural selection (Concept B) (Darwin, Evolution, and Natural Selection, n.d).” Response – Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection In Darwin’s theory concept, A explains what we know today as evolution. Evolutions explain how organisms have adapted and changed based on their environment. Certain traits are passed down from parent to offspring that cause them to adapt. Because of this, according to Darwin, any species could come from the same ancestor (Than et al., 2022). Concept B of Charles Darwin’s theory explains how organisms or species have evolved, known as natural selection. His theory explains that organisms are more likely to produce offspring than survive. The offspring with the better or stronger traits pass the traits down from generation to generation. Natural selection can also be considered “survival of the fittest (Theory of Evolution, 2023).”

Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection

Hello,

Your post shows a precise explanation of the theory of evolution by natural selection by Charles Darwin. I agree with you; the use of terms such as evolution and natural selection in theory without further explanations of what the theorist meant with their use can be confusing and lead to misinterpretation. Charles Darwin, as a naturalist, believed that organisms from a similar species had varied traits that enabled those with superior traits to produce and bring forth a new generation with modified traits, hence, a new species (Dowd, 2019). He believed that these new species further developed new traits to adapt to their environment. To not misunderstand the use of evolution through natural selection, it is best to look at how individuals within a population have notable differences such as colour, behaviour, body size and shape (Graves, 2021). This is because of the continued selection of the best genes that are passed on from the predecessor generations to the succeeding generations.

Most of the misinterpretation and misconceptions of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection can be due to how the theory conflicts with some beliefs on species’ origin. For instance, the theory of creation, which is long held in religions such as Christianity, views the origin of species as from a single all-powerful creator. From a creationist’s perspective, life on earth as it is was directly created by a deity. Other views of a creationist, the Intelligent Design, may appreciate evolution but still argue that such evolutionary processes hold that evolution might occur, but such evolutionary processes are guided by a deity. Such varied views may lead to further misinterpretation and confusion over the concepts of Darwin’s evolution theory. Do you need help with your assignment ? Contact us at eminencepapers.com.
